A starfish for the optimized wound treatment
The official logo of the new M.O.I.S.T. concept is starfish TOM. His job is to be the visual representative of the new concept and therefore helps to establish M.O.I.S.T. within the treatment pathway of wound care professionals. TOM was officially launched in spring 2017 as the official logo of M.O.I.S.T., after winning an international vote over two other options presented in the German journal WundManagement.
TOM was easily able to convince the participants in the vote that he should be the logo – given that he embodies the new M.O.I.S.T. concept so clearly and perfectly.
A name with meaning
TOM's name is deliberately chosen: His name is an acronym, the letters T, O, and M stands for "Treatment optimization (with) M.O.I.S.T.". This helps TOM to directly represent the main objective of M.O.I.S.T. – a significant improvement in the treatment of patients with chronic wounds, using all available modern treatment options.
Five arms represent five treatment options
TOM embodies the new concept also optically in a perfect way: As a starfish and surrounded with water, TOM underlines the recognized relevance of a moist wound therapy. In combination with the other four treatment options of M.O.I.S.T., the moist wound therapy provides an effective basis for a local wound care environment based on the latest scientific understanding. Furthermore, TOM helps to memorize all components of M.O.I.S.T.: Each of his five arms symbolizes a treatment option of the new concept (M = Moisture balance, O = Oxygen, I = Infection control, S = Support, T = Tissue management).
All of this makes TOM to the perfect figurehead of the innovative M.O.I.S.T. concept and an effective mnemonic for the optimized local therapy of chronic wounds.
